Emily Brumbelow (Fall 2024)

Hello All!

Happy September!!! I’m excited to be sitting down to write this letter and update you all on an amazing summer! Let’s get right to it.

Summer:

After a good time at Boot Camp, myself, along with three fellow leaders and 20 amazing teens, traveled for three plus days to Zambia. What a journey it was! I praise the Lord that overall, travel went well. We did have a little hiccup when landing in Lusaka. We were missing over 20 of our bags, and we were told they most likely wouldn’t arrive until the next morning. So, we got a little sleep on the bus that picked us up and then ran into the city for a few items. Praise the Lord we didn’t have to wait too long, and the rest of our bags made it, and we could start the long journey up north to Ndola, Zambia.

The purpose of our team was eyeglass and medical care in remote regions of Zambia. So, after three days spent in Ndola preparing and buying supplies, we drove out west for around four/five hours to an area called Wangibasha. Don’t try to look it up, it’s not on any maps, however, it is an absolutely beautiful area. Once we arrived, we set up tents and our camp area—even a tent kitchen! This was quite the experience for me having to cook for 24 people on a dirt floor over propane and charcoal, but our camp very quickly became home. We enjoyed being out in the woods and having daily campfires because of the cold. What a blessing!

The team stayed out in Wangibasha for eight days and were able to do around five clinics—not only caring for people medically, but spiritually as well through evangelism and prayer.

After our time there, we drove back towards the city (but still in the bush) to one of TMI’s Rescue Units in Lufwanyama. We stayed at this location for another three days doing clinics. Here we saw many affected by malaria and we were able to test and treat many of them. It was eye-opening for our team to see how many people in the world have zero access to medical care, even in the most basic sense, and how truly privileged we are in North America.

After Lufy, we traveled back to Ndola and spent some time there preparing for sightseeing. While in Ndola the team was able to have different evangelism opportunities and to hold an eyeglass clinic for the TMI base there.

We then made the long bus journey down to Livingstone! It was a full day of driving, over 14 hours, but it was so cool to see the many different sights and landscapes of Zambia. Once there, we had the opportunity to go on a safari, a Zambezi river cruise, and visit Victoria Falls! It was truly a beautiful experience! After sightseeing, we made another full day of driving back up to Ndola. To end our time, we shared a wonderful national meal with the TMI staff and students and had such beautiful fellowship. It was a bittersweet goodbye; many friendships had been made.

Our travel back to the USA had more than a few hiccups (lots of delays and having to stay overnight in NYC), but through it all we saw God’s provision for us and the power of prayer. What a blessing it was to be reminded of His faithfulness and goodness.

Saying goodbye to this group of teens was hard, they were an amazing team! Please be praying for them as they’re back home and living a normal life—that they would continue to be on fire for the Lord!

Deputation/Vacation:

After summer teams, I worked for about a week getting things wrapped up and ready for the Bible school term in the fall (more on that a little later). On August 19th, I flew up to Georgia to stay with family. It was a wonderful time of rest and relaxation! I was able to see lots of family, and also visit my home church twice and had the ability to share with them.

After 12 wonderfully restful days, I flew back to Florida and jumped back into life here!

Sojourner & Work:

Most of TMI’s staff and all our 2nd year students returned on September 3rd, and we jumped right into this new season of work. This week eight new Sojourner students will move in and start school. I’m so excited! Altogether there will be 15 students! It’s so crazy, this is the largest class that the school has had in many years. Praise the Lord!

We’ve also been sending out our new interns from the school. This has been so exciting and of course a little sad to say goodbye (I miss them!). Eli is serving in Asia, Lane and Abigail are serving in Australia, Josiah will fly this week to Honduras, and Jess and Sabrina are serving in Florida. Please be praying for them and the year ahead!

Along with stuff for Sojourner, I’m still working in finance! I’m so thankful for Delaynie who has been training to learn that role and has been able to take a lot off my plate. She’s a blessing!

I appreciate your prayers as I continue serving here at TMI, that I would have diligence and also joy in all that I’m doing. To God’s glory alone.

What’s Next:

I’ve got a couple things coming over the next few months to be excited about! In September all the staff and students of TMI will travel for a Staff Retreat! It will be a wonderful time together, and it’s nice to have the opportunity for fellowship.

The second week of October me and a fellow staff member, Trey, will be taking the Sojourner students on their ministry trip. We will be going to Lake Wales, FL to serve at a local ministry called HEART Village: https://heartvillage.org. They specialize in agriculture, animal care, hunger education, and much more. We will have the opportunity to not only serve this ministry, but also to learn as well! They will take the opportunity to teach and train our students in these different areas, which will be a huge part of serving cross-culturally! We will be gone for one week, and I’m really looking forward to it!

Update on Support:

As I’ve mentioned in my last few newsletters and on PrayVine, my support is not where it needs to be and I’m praying for more partners to come alongside me in the ministry at Teen Missions. My budget is to receive $1,600 per month, and currently I’m getting in around $800-$1,000, so I’m $600-$800 below budget. My prayer is to have more partners faithfully commit to supporting me monthly through the ministry of Teen Missions. If you or someone you know would be interested in this, I ask you to prayerfully consider doing so. My hope and prayer is to continue serving full-time in ministry at TMI, however in order for that to be possible I do need an increase in support. I’m so THANKFUL for those who already support me and for the sacrifices they must make to do so, thank you.

If you are interested in a one-time donation, or setting up monthly donations, please follow this link: https://teenmissions.org/missionary/brumbelow. If you have any questions about this or the ministry I’m doing through TMI please let me know: [email protected]

Prayer Requests:

  • For the upcoming term at Sojourner and for all 15 students.
  • For the six interns serving around the world—for safety, good health, strength, and encouragement.
  • For my support to increase and to be sufficient.
  • For good health and safety for myself as I travel.
  • For strength and wisdom from the Lord as I oversee the students and interns—that I may show His love to them.
  • Thank you so much for taking the time to read this update and for all your love and support. I could not do what I do without the Lord using each and every one of you. Please know that I pray for you each often! Let me know of any specific ways to pray, I would love to hear from you.

Much love and many blessings,

Emily
