Hello from Joyabaj, Guatemala!
Our host missionary, George, met us at the airport in Guatemala City and helped us get our duffles in vans and on the road. We stopped once for a bathroom break, and again after going up and down various mountains to allow the brakes on the vehicles to cool.
Once arriving on base (called The Daughters of God), we unloaded our bags and let the van drivers return home while we met Pastor Guba. Pastor Guba has a masters in theology and runs the local Bible school and seminary. He and George have been working together to help create the locals a language of their own and just finished their first Bible translation into Ki’chi in 2009.
We were greeted by a couple ladies that live near the property with an AMAZING meal of veggies, rice, beans, and steak topped with salsa. Everyone ate until they were stuffed haha!
After eating, we pulled out our beds and got a good nights sleep. Specific prayer requests for the coming days would be that Jessie S. and Nick M. continue to feel better as they recover from the flu and for Rihanna C. that her strain in her ankle heals quickly.
This morning George will talk to the team about his story, how he got here and what his ministry does. We will get insight on our work project and settle into being here (showering, hanging clothes line getting the kitchen set up, and developing a schedule with classes etc).
Thank you all for prayers as we serve God and His people here in the beautiful country of Guatemala!
