Our last report from Colombia :(
It’s crazy to believe that this is it! We only have 3 more days and then we are off to Bogota to the airport and back to Florida for debrief.
Our week has been flying by! The team has been finishing up odd projects around the base here. Including digging more post holes and digging up a foundation. They have been working so hard and their labor is not in vain! They will certainly be remembered here at the MPJ base and by Mr Pablo and his staff and family. Pablo has shared that he is impressed with how your kids have worked and the quantity of their work. This team has not been easy in the slightest, the work that they have been doing has been so laborious and they are swore and tired but they get up in the morning ready to do more! We as a leadership are so proud of them and their attitude and their willingness to keep going! It’s such an encouragement!
We have had a couple early mornings this week! On Monday we joined the staff and student as we hiked up the mountain at 5:30am for a time of devotions and worship. It was an amazing time of fellowship and an even more spectacular view! We enjoyed coffee and snacks then hiked back down where Miss Delaynie and Liam P had French toast ready for the team when they arrived. The rest of the day the team was finishing up a patio and side walk outside a staff members home. They made a huge assembly line to pass up rocks sand and concrete in buckets up the all the stairs to get to this house.
Tuesday was a relatively normal day of work for us. 7 of the team members headed back up the mountain for half of the day to finish up a few more fences while the rest of the team dug up a foundation.
Wednesday was our sightseeing day! We woke up at 4:45am to have a quick breakfast before our bus arrived. It was a two hour ride to our destination which was a massive water park. This water park was massive! We had to take a tram to get to different sides and attractions and there was also a zoo. We broke up into our travel groups and explored! It was so funny because we all had to wear swim caps and dare I say we all looked quite silly! The slides were so fun and the team cannot stop talking about which ones they went on and which ones were their favorites. We spent 8 hours at the water park and spent the evening at the mall. The team got to shop and get different things for their “souvenirs”. There really wasn’t anywhere to do any authentic souvenir shopping at this mall but non the less they had fun. We were incredibly exhausted by the time we made it back to the base.
Today is Thursday and we let the team sleep in till 6:30 this morning to catch up on some much much needed rest. Today they have a normal day of work and Friday we will be focusing on deep cleaning everything! Friday evening we will have our last supper here in colombia and we will be having a traditional Colombian meal that we will share with the staff and students here. Saturday will be a somber day as we pack up our duffles and get ready to leave Saturday afternoon. Our flight leaves at 12:30am Sunday morning and we will arrive in Orlando on Sunday morning at 10:30. Parents try your best to stay near your phones Sunday morning because your kids will be calling you to let you know that they have arrived safely back to the United States!
Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers as we have been here in Colombia. Thank you for the trust you have given us as a leadership to take care of your children for the summer. We praise the Lord everyday that everyone is healthy and in good spirits and that He has given us the strength to continue to serve him this summer! What a pleasure it has been to watch this team grow and to become unified! We have become a family and has been such a blessing!
